As you have heard from your Manager or the League, each team MUST identify a “COVID Coach” before team activities can begin. This person helps enforce safety protocols and doesn’t need baseball experience. It’s not a large time commitment assuming you plan to attend your child’s games! Please reach out to your Manager or to President Greiner right away if you are interested. And remember, all Volunteers can recover their $50 annual volunteer fee! COVID Coach trainings will be August 5, 6, and 13.
When we do get underway, each player must bring a mask or gaiter. We have ordered FCKLL-branded gaiters for every player and coach. In the event those are not here by August 8, we will ask your players to bring a mask or gaiter of their choice (and we know you have a lot of them by now!) to each team event. See fckll.org for a list of what other equipment is required, and safety protocols and plans.
Tee ballers: If you have not heard from your team’s Manager yet, it is because we are still finalizing a few of our rosters, to account for players who joined or left the League since Spring. If you have been asked to confirm that you are playing tee ball, and have not yet responded to that message, please get back to us ASAP! We need your input to finalize our teams and schedule. We have made the decision to shift the tee ball start date one week, to August 15, to make sure we have the right number of balanced teams at that level. If you are a tee ball family with questions, please contact our wonderful Level Coordinator, Dave Crance (
Covid Coaches Wanted for Each Team; Safety One-Pager Now Available
Please be on the lookout for a message from your Manager, looking for two volunteer "Covid Coaches" for each squad. These individuals will ensure people are staying physically distanced and remind players and coaches about this fall's special rules. Covid Coaches coordinate where players sit, wearing of gaiters when within 10', equipment sanitizing, and more. Baseball expertise is NOT required!
All families are asked to review the "one pager" we developed, summarizing what we will do to keep everyone safe this Fall. You will hear more about this from your Manager, but please check it out here:
It was great to see the Nats on the playing field last night, and we aren’t far behind. We are finalizing safety protocols and schedules – stay tuned for details. PLEASE remain on the lookout for messages from your Managers, as we finalize teams, identify “Covid Coaches” volunteers for each team, arrange for equipment distribution, etc. The season will be safe and fun, and we appreciate your patience as we pull together a robust plan.
As we shared previously, each player should have their own labeled drink, hand sanitizer, and glove for every practice and game, and their own or League-issued helmet, bat, mask/gaiter, and catcher’s gear (if necessary). We are in the process of buying extra equipment to ensure that all players have access to helmets and bats, and each player will be issued a FCKLL-branded gaiter. If you need to buy anything additional, don’t forget about the coupons from our longtime sponsor, Dick’s Sporting Goods (click "Sponsors" and then "Deals" in the left navigation bar.)
FCKLL welcomes girls at all of our levels, and we also wanted to mention the DC Girls Baseball organization. DCGB emphasizes player development for girls seven and up interested in playing baseball. Practices are on Sundays (so they won't conflict with Little League) at McLean HS. This is a great supplement to FCKLL, during the season or off-season. Reach out to Dan Chudd at or .
EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK
We want to play and hope to be able to offer baseball to our community in a few weeks. Everything we do will be allowable under current local guidelines and prudent according to common sense. We are committed to creating a great and safe experience for players at all levels.
The FAQs below represent our plans as of July 28, 2020; we will evolve this as we approach Opening Day.
What is the timeline for the fall season?
The season will run August 8-October 10.
What is the time commitment for the fall season?
Teams will begin practice August 8, and will practice 1-3 times a week until Opening Day, August 22. We know families may have other plans in August, so attend practices when you can!
During the season, you can expect 1 practice and 2 games, most weeks. The regular season ends October 3 and Championship Saturday is October 10.
My child was registered in the Spring. What do I do to register him/her for the fall?
Double A, Triple A, and Majors players can expect to hear from their Managers, asking if they plan to play this fall. All you need to do is respond to that message, indicating whether or not you want to participate. From there we will finalize teams and schedules. You will hear more from the League and your team’s Manager in July.
Single A and Tee Ball players, we will have a season for you as well! We are finalizing the schedule and rosters, please sit tight and we will be in touch soon.
My child was NOT registered for the Spring, but now we want to play. Is it possible?
Absolutely! Go to www.register.fckll.org beginning July 1. Registration for our upcoming season is open for all levels through July 24.
My child was registered for a certain level in the Spring but would have played a higher level in the fall.
Because we are “lifting and shifting” Spring to Fall, and all players missed months of development this Spring, all players will remain on their Spring teams. Players at the high end of ability at each level may anticipate being “called up” to a higher level for one or more games this season.
We asked for a spring refund, and now we want to play in the fall. What do we do?
Great to hear! If a player wants to play, we have several solutions to get them on the diamond! Due to the unique “lift and shift” this season, please contact the Player Agent at
to finalize invoicing or scholarship arrangements.
We will not be playing in the fall. How do we request a refund, or donate to the league?
We understand that in these dynamic times, priorities shift. FCKLL is here to support your family in any way we can. Please contact the Player Agent at
to request a refund or make a league donation.
Are financial scholarships available for players?
Absolutely YES! Our intent is: if a player wants to play, they play! Please contact the Player Agent at
to confidentially discuss a scholarship.
How can my family help the League?
We have many open Board positions and are always looking for coaches -- no experience required. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org (and/or scroll down to an earlier post) to see our areas of greatest need.
Naturally, our enhanced safety protocols will result in new expenditures for the League (equipment, disinfectant, etc.). We would greatly appeciate your tax-deductible donation. It's as easy as clicking "Donate" in the left navigation bar. Thanks in advance!
We want to play but we are worried about COVID. What is the League doing to keep my child safe?
We are gathering info from the CDC, State and Local Authorities, Little League International, and other leagues to put together the best possible safety plan. We anticipate spacing between players, no shared equipment, frequent hand sanitizer, no high fives, and much more. We will need volunteers on every team to assist us with this. A much more complete plan will be shared prior to the start of the season.
The League is focused on setting ourselves up for an outstanding fall season that is safe and rewarding for all players. We are a 100% volunteer-run not-for-profit, and we need your help to make it all happen. Various Board positions will be open (usually for two year terms) beginning in September.
These include President, COVID Response Coordinator, Coaching Coordinator, Assistant Treasurer, Assistant Player Agent, Assistant Secretary, Challenger Program Assistant, managers, team parents, snack bar helpers (if and when we can open our snack bar), and more! Think of all the glory that could be yours, as the next FCKLL President!
Officer slates are typically finalized in August with a vote in September. If you would like more info about any of these positions, please reach out to
